oh where to begin...

you ever have one of those moments? those insert foot in mouth moments? those oh i wish i hadn't just said that moments? one of those aaaah, i didn't really need to ask that... moments??  ooh pick me! pick me! i have them ALL the time!

so, today started Day 1 of English lessons with a little boy we shall call Juan, for the sake of this story and his privacy :p It was pre-evaluation... figuring out how much English he knows, recalls, how he speaks, what his interests are, etc... So i was guiding conversation and basically anything goes. Anything he wanted to talk about, go for it, champ. So I was asking about his schedule. And what time he wakes up, leaves for school, etc. He told me when he wakes up but today he woke up later because he went to the Dr.'s office to get his heart checked because he has to get surgery.  Oh really? What do you have to get surgery for? 8 words I did not need to ask. So he kind of hesitates, and says some word I'm not familiar with...  I don't understand, I tell him. What is that? I should have gotten the hint with the hesitation but I just thought he didn't know how to say it in English. So I'm all Oh look, I'm learning something new today, too! You are not the only student!  Yeah....Ummm, and finally he points down and says "partes bajados..."  WANTED TO CRAWL UNDER THE TABLE. Yep. Poor kid's getting work done on his hoo-ha and I feel like a creeper. Cool.  So, I quickly changed the subject and moved on. I hope his mom wasn't listening in on that conversation.

My friend Kathy told me that this could only have happened to me. And she's witnessed quite a bit of these escapades when we studied abroad together. Nonetheless, I had a good laugh about this one all the way home on the metro.   :-)

And this, my friends, is what warrants a reality TV show. No?
