choose your weapon.

Just watched Invictus tonight.  A movie about the South African Rugby team winning the world cup right after the aparthaid.  A quotation that really resonates with me was when Nelson Mandela's character is talking about how it is possible to forgive the people who tried to and killed many other people based on the color of skin.

He replies, "Forgiveness liberates the soul. It eliminates fear. That is why it is such a powerful weapon."

There's a lot in that statement and I think there's a lot that people can associate with that. Whether you have ever forgiven or been the forgiven, I think you must attest that this action is powerful and somewhat supernatural. I say supernatural because it often seems contrary to our natural state of wanting revenge and wanting to right whatever wrong has been committed.  Yet when performed in entirety, when extended in full, even in beginning the process,  it is extremely liberating. I wish I would use this weapon more often than I use my harsh words.

A new goal for 2010: To forgive quickly. And to walk forward in the fact that I am forgiven...
