a simple metaphor.

my desk represents my life.

note exhibit A: my desk at the superficial level. it appears really clean. ok, maybe not clean. it's still got a bit of chachki happening on it. post card collages. but for anyone who's ever been in my room, the fact that my desk is totally usable right now (no piles of anything on it) is quite remarkable.

note exhibit B: inside my desk drawers. chaos.
a convo about conviction and our hearts' motivations today prompted this thought. why bother making it seem like things are all in order if underneath is a mess?  do i want to seem like i've got things all together?  no. i need to step back and look at the bigger picture. i want to have an organized room so that it won't take me 15 minutes to find a piece of paper. so that i can have time to be doing the things that matter. it's a matter of the heart, really.
