tonight's gonna be a good GOOD night...

it all started when she suggested us getting ice cream! and it was delisssssh! now, pretty much every day i come back to my friend's apartment suggesting we get ice cream. and last night, it happened. before we walked to Plaça Espanya, we both got our choice flavors from one of the best around.  then, we headed to the magic fountain. Font Magic de Montjüic. Seriously, i've been trying to go for years. I missed going when everyone went during study abroad. last summer, we went on a night that they didn't show them. this year, it's finally happened. i mean, it's just a cheezy touristy sight. ok, who am i kidding?! i loved it! music+fountains+pretty colors= i'm down with that!

afterwards, we warmed up with xocolata amb avellana... (hot chocolate with hazelnut!) from starbucks! christmas cups are out! hurrah!!! and what a complete moment with norah jones playing in the background and all!

then, we headed to the Plaça del Rei. on the way there, i managed to highly insult my philology (basically a lit major...) french friend by calling Les Miserables "Les Mis." And then, he reemed me out. and called me american. after moving beyond our differences, we ended up at the Plaça for some traditional folk dances specific to the Catalunya region. IT WAS SO FUN!

first, we just observed. then we joined in the fun. there were group dances and just pair dances. and some of the group dances were so great. even though we didn't know the steps, we tried to enter the circles and the peeps taught us! it was fun to see a couple of young people who actually knew what they were doing.

i just love the social aspect of it all. every friday night this happens. so i'm sure this happens in cities all around the world, but maybe not. to me, though, it was so Spain. The social aspect of it all. People were out to have a good time. interacting with each other. not sitting behind a screen. and not mad at me because i didn't know what to do. we just enjoyed dancing. and having a great time.

so, this post doesn't express my emotions like i wanted it to. i'm going to try and post a video at a later time... but i'll just have to be ok with that. it was one of those live-it moments. one that inspires me to talk more with people. to DO things rather than to do nothing. and to try something new for a change.
