yup. i'm calling it twenty ten. no questions there. but what do we call the decade? the question still remains in my head... i'm open to suggestions.
new year. no resolutions this time. but i am going to take some time in the next few days to reflect and think about some goals for this upcoming year. i've got a love/hate relationship with goals. and i'd like to get back to more love with them. if you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there. thank youuuu gse language cohort.
however, before i get ahead of myself, a moment of nostalgia would only be appropriate here. thus, the year in review. I'd like to break it down. highlights and low-lights. though i'll probalby just share the highlights and make it seem like i live an endlessly happy and adventuresome life. for the record, i don't.
new years with the west end cru. my 2nd trip to the DR. a visit out to western PA. the start of my last semester as a college student. woot!
i took a teaching position for maternity leave teaching grades k-4 spanish. met a lot of great kids. stressed out with the semester of classes plus this job. stepped down to focus on my studies.
enjoyed late night chats and kitchen interactions with my roomies. a lot of sitting on that blue couch. we finally met our neighbors during spring break. found out they know a bunch of our friends from church. small world :)
road trip with my family to north carolina for aunt charlotte's big bday bash. i ate grits. and home made biscuits. and loved every crumb of it. the ride was also where my sister introduced me to a new show: how i met your mother. legendary.
studied like crazy and finally took my COMP exam. we passed! ran another half marathon. in the rain.
i handed in my last assignment and had every last paper signed as a grad student. packed up my bags. headed to ocean city, md. drove back for graduation. and then spent the next 6 weeks in ocmd.
amazing staff team. fabulous students. God continued to stretch me and grow me while in ocmd. i was one of the Single Ladies in the Darby Manor. full of long talks. spontaneous dance parties. sunday dinners. and lots of love.
came back to nj. finished up my time in new brunswick. gardened a little at the cook organic gardens! moved back home.
fourth of july was a firework extravaganza. the usual red bank kaBOOM where i discovered a love for the Quincy mumford band. they look like kids. they sing like rockstars. NYC fireworks from the top of a parking deck in jersey city!
a summer full of babysitting. the beach. being outside. reconnecting with life at home. decisions to go to spain. did i mention it was the summer of weddings? 3 weddings in 2 weeks. one of them gave me a great excuse to see chicago for the first time. i danced to I will Survive 3 too many times that month.
a life in barcelona. registered for catalan classes. met the friends who i had prayed for! found a great church. had a most interesting life experience full of daily routines and activities, and yet something new everyday.
a most amazing christmas season at home. old friends. new friends. old traditions. new perspective. spent the new year skiing in vermont with people who make my heart jolly :)
so i lift my glass and toast, "Saludos!" ;) here's to a NEW year. SAME faithful God who loves without limits. Amen!
